Frogger

Last night I bought Frogger on the Xbox Live Arcade. I thought it was really good. It cost me 400 Microsoft points or around $6 or so. The game itself is a port of the original arcade game with more features added on. I could see myself playing it a lot since it is really nice to just be able to pick up and play without having to get into it. In case you don’t know, Frogger is a very simple game where you are a frog. The objective is to make it across a street and a river and get to the other side. The main challenges are the criss-crossing of traffic, logs, and lilly-pads. This may sound simple but as you progress it speeds up and other obstacles start appearing such as snakes. Overall I would give this Live Arcade game an 8/10!

My Creative Zen Vision M

On Friday I received got my Creative Zen Vision M in the mail.  I opened it up and was very impressed with the packaging.  After I got all the software installed and everything plugged in, I transferred over a bunch of music and some videos.  Next thing you know I’m watching Trailer Park Boys off the palm of my hand.  The size of the unit and the screen are very nice.  If the screen were any bigger then the whole unit would have to be larger.  I’m happy with the size, although it could have been a little bit thinner.  It is something like 0.7 inches wide, so it isn’t too bad.  I’ll have to see how well it works when I’m at work and listening to music.  I think I’ll be running into space problems fairly soon but I suppose that’d be alright. I’ll just have to spend time copying data back and forth more often then.  The 30gb hard drive is more than enough for the battery life.  The radio feature is pretty nice, although when I have all my favorite music why would I subject myself to that. I could see myself listening to the Wolf for their normally funny morning show.  Overall, I’m going to have to give it two thumbs up and my seal of approval.

Oblivion

I have been spending my day off browsing around at all the great deals.  I noticed that at Amazon, they have some sort of Canada Day sale.  One thing that stuck out for me was Oblivion for Xbox 360.  Around here, it is regularily going for $64.99 – $69.99  so $51.99 at Amazon is a great deal.  Even though I just bought MotoGP 2006 last week I couldn’t resist this and ordered it.  I was also thinking about waiting till Saturday to order it to save the 1% GST but I didn’t want to risk the item being in stock.

For those that don’t know anything about Oblivion, it is an RPG set in a huge world that allows for almost limitless gameplay.  There is so much for people to do in this game.  As well, there is downloadable content via Xbox Live that will add even more gametime.  The game itself has gotten a lot of praise from video game reviewers.

** A hint for people with the game starting to go slower over time. . .  When starting the game, hold the A button to clear the Xbox360’s Cache.  It may take a bit longer to load but will get rid of the increased slowness that can occur. **

Pandora’s Box

I recently became aware of a very interesting site for music. The site is called Pandora. The gist behind everything is you select some music that you like, then they will start playing that music. As well,  Pandora will throw in songs that sound similar or more songs by the same artist. It continues to keep doing this and you have the option of either choosing that you like the song or that you don’t like the song. By doing that it will broaden or shrink the amount of music you are listening to. I really like it since after a bit of choosing, almost all the songs I hear are songs I want to hear.  Now if only they would create some MSN integration, then everyone would be able to tell what songs I am listening to. I also created a page that has some of my most favorite music, it also features my most recent favorites from Pandora.

DDR Time

Last week, Thursday, I bought myself DDR. Its such a great game for exercising. I’ve been getting not bad at it. I prefer to stay with Light because the higher difficulties are too much for me. On Light I have been able to get A or B on almost every song. I have 3 or 4 AA’s. So I think it’s not bad for owning the game for 4 days. I also like how you can keep track of how many calories you have burnt off. It’s always fun to look at when you go play for a while then come back and see you burnt off 800 calories! I would keep playing but after my Div 2 soccer game Monday night, I don’t have the muscle to skip. By the way, that was a great game and we played very well together for the first game of the season. This team will do well. The score was 6 – 3 in case anyone is keeping track.

Recent DVD releases

I thought I would compile a list of recent DVD releases worth checking out. The list includes releases from the last couple of weeks and is just a summary based on what kinds of DVD’s I would want to buy.

Battlestar Galactica – Season 2.0 Volume 1 – Overall this is a great series. This is the first half of the second season. Very interesting story and plot development. This is Sci-Fi at its finest. Definitely worth checking out.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children – Interesting story. Different graphical style compared to older movie. Story is better than previous.
South Park Season 7 – Not much is needed to be said. South Park is a great series that continues to be funny. Highlight episodes from this season include “Christian Rock Hard” where Cartman makes a band, and then the “Crips” where Timmy and Jimmy join the Crips. As well it also brings back a return of Kenny from his absense of Season 6.
Aeon Flux – This movie is set in the future where 99% of the worlds population is killed from a virus. Those remaining people survived from a cure made by some group who then goes on to lead these people for hundreds of years until a rebellion takes place. Thats where this movie takes place. This movie should be checked out by those who like science fiction as well as those who enjoy stories set in the future.

Games to Buy

With a new job fast approaching, I should have lots of time in the evenings to play games. I decided I should make a list of games I will buy so I don’t end up forgetting anything. A game I know I am going to buy right away is The Elder Scrolls : Oblivion. I had a really great time playing Morrowind and this game is the same style and everything. It has received good reviews so far and should provide me with a really large amount of gameplay. After this, I think it will be about time for another shooter type game, so I will probably go with Battlefield 2 : Modern Combat. This is another game that has received positive reviews. I really liked the looks of the PC version of Battlefield 2 so I’m sure I will like this. Hopefully by this time I will be well into June. If I am, I want to pick up MotoGP 06. Playing the original MotoGP on Xbox Live was a lot of fun, also the fact that I really like racing games sure helped.

Beyond this, I already have a bunch of great games that I should put some more time into. I think I will go back and play Need For Speed : Most Wanted, Project Gotham Racing 3, Top Spin 2, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, and definetly start Perfect Dark Zero. Those games alone should be able to provide me a lot of playtime but I always like to play something new after awhile.

Finals Complete

I have finished all my finals. Now I get to enjoy less than 2 weeks of summer vacation before my coop job starts. I should make a list of all the things I want to do or else I don’t think I’ll get anything done. Maybe I’ll finally have some time to play Xbox360. It seems that with school I haven’t had much time at all the be able to play. I have been playing with my server some more. I upgraded the BIOS and set the “strap N/B” to FSB1066. One webpage said this allows me to up the FSB and not affect the PCIe frequency. Well it seems to have worked. I’m not sure if it was the BIOS update or the changing of that setting but I’m idling a lot cooler now, around 25 degrees. I also upped the clockspeed to 3.0ghz by setting the external clock to 150mhz. So far so good.

New Server Installed

I put together all the components and the new server is in place. The computer itself seems very responsive, I am thinking that is due to the dual core. I didn’t go crazy with overclocking and just put it at 2.8ghz. Overall, no problems so far and hope that continues.

Freeware Heaven

If you have ever spent more than five minutes searching for some good freeware, than have I got a site for you. eConsultant has a giant list of more freeware programs than you can shake a stick at, and did I mention they are all free?

I am often asked to recommend certain software and I found that this list includes many of the same programs that I would tell others to use. This list is handy for any person who likes to use freeware, wants something that is easily readable and wants direct links to the programs mainpages.
