15 of the Ugliest Hockey Logos Ever

Denver Spurs Logo
In honour of Buffalo’s new ‘buffaslug’ logo, here is a list of 15 mostly non-NHL logos that will burn your retinas. The worst must be the spur-enabled hockey skate (blade-enabled cowboy boot?) from the Denver Spurs. See above example!

I’m glad that the Toronto Maple Leafs are nowhere near that list. Overall, I agree with every selection on that list and I can’t believe people would actually have chose some of those logos.

Formula One 2006 Season Finished

Yesterday was the final race of the season. It took place in Brazil and fittingly was won in the end by a Brazilian. The race carried with it a lot at stake. Fernando Alonso was almost assured the title but nothing was guaranteed. If Alonso didn’t finish in the points and Michael Schumacher finished first then Schumacher would have won the driver’s championship. Luckily, for Alonso, he was able to finish the race and easily bring it home to second place. Schumacher had some bad luck on around the 9th lap when he made a pass and he had some contact and his tire was damaged. This resulted in a long lap and a pit stop. This put him back to last place and 70 seconds back from the front, pretty much killing all chances of his remote championship. He did make a valiant effort and posted some of the best laps of the race. He ended up 4th place. A great showing and performance for his last ever race in a Formula one car. So long Michael, have fun being retired now. This was also the last race for a lot of drivers with their respective cars. Next season there is going to be a lot of juggled drivers in different cars. The most shocking is going to be Alonso moving to Mercedes. This will make it very hard to 3-pete as champion. This was also the last race for Michelin as a tyre manufacturer. Next season, there is only going to be Bridgestone. Overall, a great season of motor sports!

Indoor Soccer

Last night was the season opener for the indoor soccer season. Again for this season I am playing on a White City team and we look like we will be a strong team. The game for indoor is a lot faster and more physical. Although there are no slide tackles there is a lot of body to body collisions. For the season opener, White City played AC Deportivo, in a game that we should have won. The opponents didin’t possess much in the way of skill or talent. We had a 2 to 0 lead through most of the game but near the end we gave up the two goals to end up with a tie. The turning point had to have been when a player on Deportivo headbutted Mark after the play. This was completely uncalled for and should not be found in sports. Hopefully further consequences will arise as a result of his actions.

Chinese F1 Grand-Prix

On Sunday there was the Chinese F1 Grand-Prix. The race was wet for the most part but became drier near the end. This type of race better suited the Bridgestone driver’s as their tyres seem to perform better in the wet to dry scenario. Fernando Alonso had the lead for the first part of the race. During his first pit stop he felt his front tyres were beginning to be worn out so they decided to replace only the fronts. This turned out to be a bad move though. Everyone else stayed on their old tyres and maintained their performance while Alonso lost a lot of grip. He had built up a 24 second gap before the pit stop, and looked like he would easily run away with the race. The lack of grip was costing him about 3 second per lap. Fisichella and Schumacher quickly caught up and passed Alonso. So then the next round of pit stops came and Alonso went to the dry tyres. This time the pit stop didn’t go well as a the right rear tyre didn’t go on well and it cost them an extra 20 seconds in the pits. The race was over, or was it. Alonso was moving very fast with his new dry tyres making up 1.5 – 2 seconds per lap. He was flying to catch back up. In the end he was 3 seconds behind Michael Schumacher. The end result was dissapointment for Renault as they lost a race they should have won. So now, with two races remaining, the Driver’s Championship is all tied up. Both Alonso and Schumacher have 116 points. This are getting interesting with the next race on Sunday in Japan.

Soccer Game?

I think I might have a soccer game today. I read on a tentative schedule emailed to me from someone from some other division, who got it from a friend who knows someone at Regina Soccer. The problem with all of this is, I have not been phoned by anyone on our team. So, if we do have a game will I be the only person there?? I guess I should probably go maybe they just forgot to phone me. I also have a class tonight, so that is also important that I go to. I wish stupid Regina Soccer would update their webpage and put on the playoff schedule already, this is ridiculous.

Formula 1: Kubica to Replace Villeneuve in Hungary

Kubica will replace Villeneuve for the Hungarian Grand-Prix after Jaques informed BMW that he is not ready to race after his accident in Germany. There is some speculation that Jaques Villeneuve’s career at BMW is ending. I am hoping that this is just a temporary replacement for the one race. Jaques is the only Canadian driver in the field and is a former world champion. I feel that he brings a lot to Formula One and should stick around longer.

Italia Wins

Italy finally wins the world cup. I have been a fan of Italy ever since the 1994 World Cup. Too bad back then they weren’t able to pull through and Baggio missed his penalty kick. This time around things were different. Buffon played excellent in net, and the defense in front of him was great. The video above is Zinedine Zidane headbutting Materazzi in the extra time. This resulted in a red card and France really missing out on one of their better penalty kickers. Italy then proceeded to capitalize on this by winning the game in penalty kicks. This is never the way I would want to win a game. I would much rather have seen it won in regulation time. I am of the opinion that the penalty kicks make it an individuals game and not a team game. It doesn’t matter now though. Italy wins!!

Soccer Time

Tonight I have a soccer game against CUFC FUHL. I am hoping that we will play this game, and I’m sure we probably will, since the fields have to still be soggy. I know that the games last week Friday were cancelled since it was non-stop raining. I’m just glad we’ll be receiving three straight days of sunshine. I just hope the weather people are right, since I would much prefer to play soccer under warm conditions. Although not too hot since I still haven’t gotten used to running like that so far this year.

In World Cup action today, United States v. Czech Republic, Italy v. Ghana, and Japan v. Australia. Yesterday, Netherlands beat Serbia, Mexico beat Iran, and Portugal beat Angola. I still haven’t seen any of those matches yet, as they were still downloading.

**update 4:00pm** It looks like all the soccer fields are closed tonight due to field conditions, thus all the games are cancelled. It doesn’t look like they dried out enough today. This is very disappointing.

World Cup

Today is the first day of the World Cup. Today’s games include: Germany v. Costa Rica, and Poland v. Ecuador. The Germany game could be interesting to see. I’m not really sure what to expect out of the other game though. Tomorrow’s games could be more interesting as they include: England v. Paraguay, Trinidad & Tobago v. Sweden, and Argentina vs. Ivory Coast. Although I have been a long time Italy fan, I doubt they will be able to do well in this tournement. They are struggling on their national team at the moment, and the injuries they currently have will not be helping them out. They’ll play Ghana on Monday for their first game. So, for the next month, with no other sports to watch (besides 2 – 5 more hockey games), I’ll be watching World Cup.
